How young is too young?

A friend and I were discussion the Gunther books and we were wondering if her 16 year old is too young for them. Does anyone have an opinion? How young is too young for these books. Some of them have some pretty rough scenes and explicit scenes. However, you know kids today seem to have seen it all… Any thoughts?

    Kids today have seen it all. And these books aren't sensationalist, they're cautionary. I think 16 is fine. I actually think 16 years olds SHOULD read them -- and then their parents should talk about it with them. All kids should know the basics of the two world wars and the Cold War, and Kerr is so entertaining readers don't even notice the education he sneaks in to his work.
